Volunteers Needed This Sunday

We need a couple of volunteers who have an interest in waste reduction!

The Arid Lands Environment Centre is partnering with Alice Springs Town Council and Charles Darwin University to run a waste audit of the Todd Mall Markets. The aim of the waste audit is to understand what waste is being generated, identify opportunities to minimise waste at the markets and inform an upcoming education campaign aimed to reduce single-use plastics.

ALEC is calling for volunteers to participate in the waste audit. The waste audit will be conducted this Sunday 17thJune from 2pm to 4pm. Participants will help to sort the waste as well as learn the basics of waste auditing.

Participants are required to wear long sleeved pants and a top, and closed in shoes. Safety equipment, such as gloves, safety glasses and dust masks, will be provided.

Here is an ABC article about a similar waste audit in Darwin earlier this year (please note this is a big market - the waste types will be less and quite different) http://mobile.abc.net.au/news/2018-02-26/war-on-waste-market-impact-revealed-environment-centre-nt/9484530?pfmredir=sm
