Write a submission: help the Territory Build back better

We have an opportunity in the Territory to build back better for a safe climate and resilient community.

The Territory wasn’t just lucky when it came to the pandemic. Our leaders listened to the experts and took the right course of action.  The coordinated response and collaborative effort to minimise risk to the most vulnerable communities was heartening and saved countless lives.

Now, as this crisis moves into the next phase, the conversation has turned to what kind of investments the NT Government should make to rebound from the recession.  The decisions that we make now will shape our communities and our climate for generations - let’s make the right ones.

This is a critical opportunity to contribute to a sustainable, just recovery.

Public submissions are now open to help shape the agenda of our economic recovery. By making a submission, you have the chance to contribute to a climate-positive, sustainable recovery; one that focuses on decarbonising the economy, protects nature and sets us on course for a fairer, more equitable Territory.

We are at a crossroads. We can build the economy of the future with renewables and investment into conservation, or lock ourselves into decades more emissions, resource depletion and harmful pollution. Our recovery should not simply focus on returning to growth but growing smarter, cleaner, and more resilient.

Here's what you can do:

Make a formal submission

The Territory Economic Reconstruction Commission is tasked with providing recommendations the Territory Government about the direction of our economic recovery. The Commission wants to hear your ideas, vision and expertise on how we can rebound strongly from the crisis. Your ideas will form a critical contribution to informing their recommendations to government.

Submissions do not need to be long or technical to be effective, but they must be high quality and address specific criteria. Please read the guide we have put together for writing an effective submission.

Once it's ready, lodge your submission online.

If you have any questions about writing your submission, please get in touch at [email protected]

Visit the NT Government website for more details about the submission process. Submissions will be accepted until 12 midnight on Friday 24 July 2020.
