The Arid Lands Environment Centre (ALEC) is central Australia's peak environmental organisation that has been advocating for the protection of nature and growing sustainable communities in the arid lands since 1980.
We’re a small organisation working across a huge range of projects to protect Australia’s iconic arid regions and create a safe future. To help us continue this important work, we are looking for an amazing volunteer to join our close-knit and friendly team.
You’ll be working directly with our community engagement officer, in a multi-faceted role that is essential to keeping the wheels of the organisation moving. Your commitment to the environment, eye for detail and hard work will support staff across different areas of our organisation. Excel and NationBuilder skills are favourable, but by no means necessary.
ALEC works on a wide range of issues: climate change, renewable energy, sustainability, biodiversity conservation, food and water security, fracking, nuclear issues, mining, urban development. The organisation also has its own enterprise arm, Arid Edge Environmental Services.
We auspice the Alice Springs Community Garden, support local campaign groups such as the Central Australian Frack Free Alliance, RePower Alice Springs and Alice Springs Zero Waste. For the past 11 years, ALEC has produced Central Australia’s largest sustainability and science event, the desertSMART EcoFair, and countless other environmental community events. None of this would happen without the hard work and dedication of our volunteers.
We estimate that the administration officer position will require a commitment of no more than one day a week, and will be flexible to suit the volunteer’s schedule where possible.
The primary workplace will be Arid Lands Environment Centre: 90 Gap Road, The Gap.
