Meet the ALEC Team

Erika Hamilton is a community-minded leader based in Alice Springs with a strong background in professional development, business growth, and advocacy. She has held executive and board roles, built her own small business, and participated in leadership programs across Australia. Erika is passionate about strengthening rural communities and is eager to build connections and sharpen her skills to better serve the Northern Territory.

Alex is passionate about caring for the arid and semi-arid lands. For five years, he has engaged with policy and advocacy opportunities across water, biodiversity conservation, mining, invasives and climate. Alex is the Conservation Representative on the National Established Weed Priorities Framework.

Currently, he is a Masters of Climate Change student, having previously completed a Bachelor of Science majoring in Environmental Studies and Plant Science, and Honours in Geography. He is grateful to be based in Mpartwe Alice Springs to continue the fight to better conserve waters, lands, climate and cultures. 

Hannah organises locally and up the Stuart highway as part of a broad coalition committed to stopping fracking in the NT. 

In a time and place where it's clear that things need to drastically change to address ongoing injustice compounded by runaway climate change, Hannah is interested in the question of how we can best work collectively to overcome vested interests and system inertia to achieve environmental justice goals.

Lucy lived in Mparntwe (Alice Springs) for five years and is now based in Naarm (Melbourne) on Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Country. They have been working with ALEC since October 2023 and are always exploring what motivates communities to work individually and collectively towards environmental justice. Lucy holds a Bachelor of Science (Resource and Environmental Management) and is currently enrolled in a Masters of Ecological Management and Conservation. They are passionate about ecological restoration, environmental advocacy and community engagement within local landscapes/Country.

They love being out bush, cooking on a fire, and growing food, and they are constantly in awe of the beauty of the plants and ecosystems of the arid lands.

Meret lives and works in Mparntwe on Arrernte Country. They work in event production and community engagement supporting the advocacy team.

Driven by a deep passion for nature and social justice, Kat brings extensive expertise in the advocacy and political sector to the Arid Lands Environment Centre. 

Kat’s experience spans political campaign organising, human rights, First Nations social justice, invasive species policy and hands on bush regeneration. 

Kat’s skills lie in campaign strategy, volunteer engagement and translating complex policy into motivating calls to action to galvanise communities around an issue.

After falling in love with the red centre during a brief visit, Kat has found her new home in Mparntwe, Alice Springs. 

Kat finds the desert landscapes of Central Australia healing, and is determined to return the favour by fighting for policies which maintain and protect the arid lands of Australia.
