With exploratory fracking on the horizon for the dry season in 2019, the NT Government is pushing through a raft of legislation and regulatory reforms to enable fracking to start.
Join ALEC for a 1 hour submission writing workshop at 5pm Monday 29th April at 90 Gap Road to support community participation in these key regulatory reform processes.
Please bring a laptop if you have one, use one of the ALEC computers or make a handwritten submission that can be scanned and sent from ALEC from the workshop.
Two key documents are currently open for public consultation.
1. SANTOS Environmental Management Plan (EMP) for the McArthur Basin Drilling Program
The EMP is the document that outlines the scope of works and all the environmental factors to be considered for a project. It is the environmental approval document that outlines the conditions SANTOS will be held to before, during and after drilling.

See more information about EMP's from the NT Environmental Defenders Office here
2. Draft Petroleum Code of Practice
The development of an industry Code of Practiceis key to ensuring that the industry operates in compliance with rigorous environmental and engineering standards. The code outlines well integrity requirements, methane monitoring and water monitoring strategies that need to be enforced by the regulator.
