One of the jobs that ALEC does is to make comment on projects that are likely to have significant impact on the environment. ALEC has reduced capacity to do this job and relies heavily on volunteers to support this important task.
Come along and hear about the environmental assessment and approval process in the NT and how you can get involved in supporting ALEC in maintaining a watchdog role in the absence of a robust regulatory system.
Submissions for the Environmental Impact Statement for the Jemena (Tennant Creek-Mt Isa) Pipeline project closes on October 9. This pipeline was a Giles Government initiative to open up fracking in the NT.
ALEC will be making a submission to this project and many other project in coming months.
