Water controversies regularly punctuate the news cycle in the Northern Territory. The decision to grant an unprecedentedly large water licence at Singelton Station is one example. These stories point to a wider problem with water laws in the Territory and have eroded trust in the Government's management of our most precious resource.
In 2022, the Environment Centre NT and the Arid Lands Environment Centre will be advocating strongly for better water laws.
Join us for a frank discussion about the problems with our water laws - such as irrigators receiving water for free while remote communities go without basic protections for drinking water - and what changes are needed to ensure a safe, secure and just water framework for all Territorians.
