**URGENT UPDATE**

In the final fortnight of our Annual EOFY Appeal, we received news that ALEC is required to pay 35% of Fortune Agribusiness' legal costs from our landmark court challenge against the Singleton Station groundwater licence, following a judgment handed down in January 2024.

For a small organisation like ALEC, this is a significant financial blow.

We do not regret taking on this fight and we are proud to have stood up and fought for water justice in the arid lands and we are now asking you to stand beside us.

This news has made our EOFY Fundraising Appeal more critical than ever this year and shifts our goal from $140,000 to $220,000

Each year, we ask our community to stand with us in protecting the arid lands. As a small, independent organisation based in remote Central Australia, ALEC relies on the generosity of our supporters to sustain this work. Every campaign, submission, community event, field trip, workshop, media story and act of advocacy is made possible by people who care deeply about the arid lands and choose to support their protection through donating.

Our commitment is to continue showing up in the way we always have: working alongside local communities, Traditional Owners, volunteers and partners; staying place-based and connected; and continuing to listen, build relationships, and advocate strongly for the arid lands over the long term.

ALEC is a place-based, community-led organisation with a long-term commitment to the arid lands.

Our work spans campaigning, policy advocacy, partnerships, First Nations solidarity and community mobilisation and resilience. Your support enables us to:

1. Deliver on-ground campaigns tackling climate impacts, invasive species and groundwater protection.

2. Hold government and industry to account and influence policy outcomes.

3. Strengthen partnerships and alliances across local, regional and national levels, built on shared knowledge and leadership

4. Support First Nations leadership and elevate remote community voices in policy and public discourse.

5. Strengthen community resilience and support sustainable food security in the arid lands.
