Community Garden

Community gardens are places to meet, learn and grow food. Building a strong community, reducing food miles and increasing resilience is very much in line with ALEC's aim; "Healthy Futures for Arid Lands and People".

Background of the community garden project

A core group have been meeting since August 2007 for the purpose of creating a community garden in Alice Springs. The group have established a community garden prospectus that encapsulates the values of the proposed garden and in 2009 the Alice Springs Town Council approved the site and $5000 for the purpose of establishing the project. The funding will support the Community Garden Project Officer position.

The proposed community garden is Frances Smith Park- between Bourke St and Kurrajong Drive, Eastside.
