Cameco Corp. will pay up to $1.4 million as a settlement to the state of Wyoming for not complying with the state's environmental standards at a uranium mine.
In March, Power Resources, Inc., which operates Cameco's Smith Ranch-Highlands Mines, was issued a notice of violation over environmental concerns at the mines.
The Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality found problems with the company's pace of groundwater restoration, mine-permit documentation, site-reclamation schedules, spills and reclamation-cost estimates.
